Weekly Report

I am sitting here typing this while get my hair done by an over eager 6 year old with a big brush. Let's hope my hair and head survives this. Due to an out of town opthamologist appointment on Monday, our school week was 4 days. I hate it when my schedule gets messed up.
We cut out geography a little while back except for the map work that gets done during history. So we have signed up for Postcrossing which allows you to send and receive postcards from around the world. I thought this would be a good way to get in some geography and culture study. We have just sent out our first postcards to China, Germany and the Netherlands. After they have been listed as received we then get put into the system to receive postcards. It's going to make getting the mail exciting.

We also started reading The Harry Potter series as our bedtime read aloud. I haven't read them yet for some reason and thought it would be fun for both of us.

My husband came home this week all excited saying he bought me something I have wanted for a long time. Drum roll...........He bought me a label maker! Yay! So I spent that evening labelling my date/weather station with labels of the french words underneath the all of the english. This way we can get some french review in every morning when we do today's date and weather.







This week in review:

Memory Work - She now has the Pharaohs of Ancient Egypt memorized now and I am going through lists of what to add next.

Phonics - We have finished lesson 218 in OPTGR with adding common endings to words.

First Language Lessons - Lesson 55-58, we are on action verbs and going over our memorized poems

Writing with Ease - Completed week 18 of copy work and narration exercises that used Winnie the Pooh as the quote and narration guide.

Latin (Song School Latin) - This week was a chapter review of all the animals and Christmas words. Roo thinks it's hilarious when we make the baby dance and to actions to the songs. I don't think Merle thinks it's quite as funny though. 

French (Nallenart) - Words that are found on a farm and review of unit 1 and 2. I finally did buy some more lamination supplies but haven't yet used them. Is it just me or does the week sneak away from you when you keep saying, "I'll do it tomorrow"?

Math (Singapore Math) - We are taking a break again to work on facts. It just doesn't make sense to me to try to move ahead at the moment. I have been considering Mammoth Math to see if it helps with her understanding of addition and subtraction. I just got an email that it will be going on a short-time 20% off sale in the latter part of February.   

History (Story of the World) - We finished chapter 18 about Nebuchadnezzar and one of the Wonders of the Ancient World, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon.  We read about the gardens and then she drew a picture of them. 

Science (Elemental) - We are studying reptiles and amphibians. This weeks animals included alligators/crocodiles, turtles and frogs. We are getting close to finishing the animal study and moving onto the body soon.

Composer Study - We listened to more works by Henry Purcell and watched some YouTube videos of people and orchestras playing his pieces. We really like the haunting sound of the Music for the funeral of Queen Mary.
